This post is part of our Yacht Automation Series. Today we are going to explore how to make the most of your space on board.
How big is your yacht?
Space is surely one of the biggest challenges when it comes to automation for yachts. From cabling to where to position the speakers, everything must be carefully planned to avoid costly mistakes.
Since space is limited, you don’t want bulky technology to be in the way when it’s not used. A primary example is the TV: it’s surely great to enjoy your favourite movie on a big 4k screen directly in you cabin, but why should the TV be the first thing you see in the morning? By fitting an electrical TV lift into a cabinet in front of the bed, you can have your screen come up only when you need it.
You can see an example in the project below, where we used a lift by Future Automation , a premium manufacturer leading the 2020 CEPro top 100 in the ‘Home Enhancements’ category.
Alternative options include ceiling TV lifts or swiveling wall mounts (so you can also adjust the viewing angle depending on where you are in the room). These can be installed either indoor or outdoor.
In addition to TVs, automated retractable mounts can also be used for cinema screens and projectors, so you can have a completely hidden system but still enjoy your personal cinema whenever you want.
Another field where you can optimise space and aesthetic are speakers: after having the interior design carefully designed, you may not want the speakers to get in the way. Luckily, you have the option to choose discreet or even invisible setups, to avoid compromising your desired look.
In our project below, you can see both strategies in action: the TV goes all the way down in the cabinet and speakers are barely visible in the ceiling.
